From a one-off performance to a full album
Here Be Monsters began as a commission for the centennial jubilee of the Norwegian Technical Museum in November 2014. Written for an expanded Motorpsycho line-up featuring keyboardist Ståle Storløkken, the music was performed just once before Bent, Snah and Kenneth developed it into a full-blown Motorpsycho album.
The gentle Sleepwalking and its brief reprise frame a world of shifting moods: the serene Lacuna/Sunrise and Running With Scissors, the pounding I.M.S., and the sprawling closing adventure Big Black Dog. Their interpretation of Terry Callier’s Spin, Spin, Spin, inspired by HP Lovecraft’s version, adds a slightly sinister psychedelic twist.
Co-produced, engineered and mixed by longtime collaborator Thomas Henriksen, who also contributes keyboards, the album brings the songs into sharp, immersive focus.
